PARADIGM COMMUNICATIONS GROUP AWARDED TOP MAGAZINE HONORS AT THE SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS 2010 AWARDS CEREMONY



SEATTLE -- Alaska Airlines Magazine and Horizon Air Magazine, published by Paradigm Communications Group, received multiple honors in the magazine division of this year’s Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism competition, winning 14 awards. Paradigm editors, art directors and free-lancers received three first-place awards, seven second-place and four third-place awards. The SPJ’s Western Washington Chapter awards were presented May 22 at the SPJ annual banquet honoring Excellence in Journalism among magazine, newspaper, Internet and broadcast media for work done in 2009.

Alaska Airlines Magazine, won seven awards. The magazine received four second-place awards: General News/Feature Reporting, Eric Lucas, “World Heritage Sites;” Travel Reporting, Eric Lucas, “Anchorage Bound;” Headlines, Alaska Airlines Magazine Staff; Sports Photography, Jeff Schultz/alaskastock.com, “Team Perspective.” The magazine earned three third-place awards: Travel Reporting, Nick Jans, “Island Adventures;” Magazine Departments, Alaska Airlines Magazine Staff, “Journal;” Sports Photography, Tom Hauck/Getty Images, “Pac-10 Primer.”

Horizon Air Magazine won seven awards. The magazine received three first-place awards: Consumer Reporting, Jane Hodges, “Funding Your Graduate-School Education;” Arts and Entertainment Reporting, Jim Gullo, “The Puppet Master;” Sports Photography, Chad Chase/Idaho Stock Photography, “Boise Day and Night.” The magazine earned three second-place awards: Business Reporting, Cynthia Nims, “Our Cup of Tea;” Social Issues Reporting, Scott Driscoll, “Nature and Nurture;” Photo Essay or Pages, Nancy O’Connell, “Showcase 2009.” The magazine earned one third-place awards: Columns and Essays, Leo Garibaldi & Nancy O’Connell, “Dude, Mom- Let’s Roll.”
