PARADIGM COMMUNICATIONS GROUP AWARDED TOP MAGAZINE HONORS AT THE SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS 2009 AWARDS CEREMONY



SEATTLE -- Alaska Airlines Magazine and Horizon Air Magazine, published by Paradigm Communications Group, received multiple honors in the magazine division of this year’s Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism competition, winning 13 awards. Paradigm editors, art directors and free-lancers received two first-place awards, five second-place, six third-place and five honorable-mention awards. The SPJ’s Western Washington Chapter awards were presented May 30 at the SPJ annual banquet honoring Excellence in Journalism among magazine, newspaper, internet and broadcast media for work done in 2008.

Alaska Airlines Magazine, won five awards. The magazine received one first-place award: Headlines, Alaska Airlines Magazine Staff. The magazine earned three second-place awards: Arts/Entertainment News/Features, Dean Paton, “Reel Success;” Columns/Essays, Lisa Wogan, “Canine Points of View;” Consumer News/Features, Paul Clarke, “Can We Stop Spam?” The magazine earned one third-place award: Leisure/Lifestyle News/Features, Terry Sheely, “Magic Time.”

Horizon Air Magazine won eight awards. The magazine received one first-place award: Photography – Feature, Terry Donnelly, “Exploring the Great Northwest.” The magazine earned two second-place awards: Science/Environmental Affairs News/Features, Eric Lucas, “Sustainable Farming;” Personalities, Jim Gullo, “The Art of Costume Design.” The magazine earned five third-place awards: Consumer News/Features, Elizabeth Rhodes, “Savvy Selling;” Science/Environmental Affairs News/Features, Joe Follansbee, “Smart Materials;” Travel News/Features, Scott Driscoll, “Naturally Appealing;” Sports News/Features, Craig Hill, “Hitting it Big;” Headlines, Horizon Air Magazine Staff.
