PARADIGM COMMUNICATIONS GROUP RECEIVES MAGAZINE HONORS AT THE SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS AWARDS CEREMONY

SEATTLEAlaska Beyond Magazine and Alaska Beyond Magazine, Horizon Edition, the inflight magazines for Alaska Airlines, published by Paradigm Communications Group, received honors in the magazine division of this year’s Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism competition, winning seven awards. Paradigm editors, art directors and free-lancers received three first-place awards, two second-place and two third-place awards. The SPJ’s Western Washington Chapter awards were presented June 13 at the SPJ annual banquet honoring Excellence in Journalism among magazine, newspaper, Internet and broadcast media for work done in 2014.

Alaska Beyond Magazine, won four awards. The magazine received two first-place awards: Personalities Reporting, Eric Lucas, “Tom Douglas” and Pictorial Photography, Art Wolfe, “Photo Page.” The magazine received one second-place award: Headlines, Staff, Alaska Beyond Magazine and also earned one third-place award: Environment and Science Reporting, Eric Gold, “Sustaining Sustainability.”

The staff of Alaska Beyond Magazine includes Paul Frichtl, Editor; Michele Andrus Dill, Senior Editor; Jeff Bond and Ben Raker, Associate Editors; Eric Lucas, Contributing Editor; Margaret Elson and Patty Warkentin, Art Directors; Whitney Little, Associate Art Director; Ken Krass, Advertising Director; Mimi Kirsch, Publisher; and Ed Kirsch, CEO.
 
Horizon Edition Magazine won three awards. The magazine received one first-place award: Arts and Entertainment Reporting, Scott Driscoll, “Teenage Drama.” The magazine also received one second-place award: Arts and Entertainment Reporting, Ted Fry, “Puzzle Creators” and one third-place award: Personal Service Reporting, Michelle Martin, “Digital Fitness.”
