PARADIGM COMMUNICATIONS GROUP RECEIVES MAGAZINE HONORS
AT THE SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS AWARDS CEREMONY

Seattle — Alaska Beyond Magazine, the inflight magazine of Alaska Airlines, received two first-place awards at this year’s Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism competition. The awards were presented to Paradigm Communications Group, publisher of Alaska Beyond Magazineat the society’s annual ceremony honoring excellence in journalism among magazine, newspaper, internet and broadcast media for work done in 2016.

Alaska Beyond Magazine won first place in Feature Photography for an image of a camel train on the Sahara Desert, taken by photographer Art Wolfe, and featured in the March 2016 story Gearing Up to Take Great Photos. The magazine also won first place in Portrait Photography for its September 2016 Photo Page of 4-H kids showing off their prize-winning poultry entries at the Alaska State Fair, by photographer Clark James Mishler.

 MARKETING AWARDS

Seattle—Paradigm Communications Group, publisher of Alaska Beyond Magazine, the in-flight magazine of Alaska Airlines, has received a first-place “Big M” and two second-place “Silver M” awards in The Marketing Awards competition for Puget Sound–area media.

The first-place “Big M” award recognized the magazine’s insightful feature story Flying Better TogetherAlaska Airlines & Virgin America, published in the May 2016 issue, for informing and engaging readers and creating excitement around Alaska’s industry-leading merger. The two “Silver M” awards were presented for the in-depth story Luly Yang: High-Flying Fashion in October 2016, and for the wide-ranging Global Travel story in August 2016. All three stories showcased significant Alaska Airlines initiatives.

The annual awards competition is conducted by the locally based Marketing newspaper, and honors excellence in the fields of print publishing, advertising, broadcasting, creative arts, direct marketing, and public relations.

Marketing has previously named Mimi Kirsch, president and publisher of Paradigm Communications Group, as a Marketing Immortal. The honor acknowledges communications and marketing professionals who have demonstrated leadership in their industries and in the communities in which they live and volunteer.
