PARADIGM COMMUNICATIONS GROUP AWARDED TOP MAGAZINE HONORS AT THE SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS 2008 AWARDS CEREMONY



SEATTLE -- Alaska Airlines Magazine and Horizon Air Magazine, published by Paradigm Communications Group, received multiple honors in the magazine division of this year’s Society of Professional Journalists Excellence in Journalism competition, winning 19 awards. Paradigm editors, art directors and free-lancers received two first-place awards, six second-place, six third-place and five honorable-mention awards. The SPJ’s Western Washington Chapter awards were presented May 31 at the SPJ annual banquet honoring Excellence in Journalism among magazine, newspaper, internet and broadcast media for work done in 2007.

Alaska Airlines Magazine, won 12 awards. The magazine received one first-place award: Travel News/Features, Nicolas O’Connell, “Adventure Ready.” The magazine earned four second-place awards: Sports News/Features, Percy Allen, “Full Court Press;” Headlines, Alaska Airlines Staff; Cover Design, Margaret Elson; Photo – Feature, Julie Smith, “Pike Place Fish Company.” The magazine earned three third-place awards: Leisure and Lifestyle News/Features, Paul Clarke, “True Brew;” Cover Design, Margaret Elson, Patty Warkentin and Heather Kuver; Photo – Feature, Joel W. Rogers, “Seattle.” The magazine also earned four honorable-mention awards: Consumer News/Features, Eric Lucas, “Home on the Web;” Personalities, Eric Lucas, “Novel Ideas;” Personal Service News/Features, Jean Hamilton, “Spoken Word;” Sports News/Features, Jim Gullo, “Course of Action.”

Horizon Air Magazine won seven awards. The magazine received one first-place award: Page Design, Nancy O’Connell. The magazine earned two second-place awards: Consumer News/Features, Eric Lucas “Growing Success;” Cartoons and Illustrations, Darren Smith, “Waves of the Future.” The magazine earned three third-place awards: Travel News/Features, Michele Dill, “Luxury Adventure;” Headlines, Horizon Air Staff; Portfolio Photography, Keith Lazelle, “Photographic Haiku.” The magazine also received one honorable-mention award: Spread Design, Nancy O’Connell, “Spring Beauties.”
